"I want to help these IMGs because God knows we could use more doctors around here but I don't want to jeopardize my patients when they (IMG) aren't familiar with the Canadian system or even the simple nuances or how we do things around here. And while I enjoy teaching them, I have to also prioritize my patients so this pre-assessment tool you offer really helps tremendously because my staff and I know exactly what we're getting when we take on a Medship candidate. It ultimately leads to a much greater learning experience for the candidate and a more enjoyable enjoyable experience for us too. "
What is the MedShips Pre-Clinical Assessment?
Our online Pre-Clinical Assessment is a 20 question situational judgement test that assesses a candidates decision-making abilities in various clinical settings, similar to what you'd expect to encounter during one of our placements.
We recognize that our candidates are coming from all over the world. Whether they studied in the Caribbean, Europe, Asia or Africa, while 'principles of medicine' might be the same, how things are actually done vary greatly from country to country. In Canada, we're no different. Our preceptors take great pride in their roles and clinicians but they also have a heart for sharing knowledge and teaching. Unfortunately, due to the social norms, cultural differences, language barriers or the sheer lack of Canadian healthcare experience, many IMG candidates struggle to succeed in a placement and often times, preceptors are left with a bitter taste and reluctant to 'do it again'. This is why we created our Pre-Clinical Assessment!
We want to ensure that every candidate the partakes in a clerkship or observership with our network of physicians in primed and on-boarded when it comes to addressing the various expectations, cultural nuances and basic medical guidelines. Simply put, we want to ensure you have a basic understanding of 'what your role entails and what is expected of you' when you are in a placement with our physicians.
